For Immediate Release

May 4, 2020 – Calgary, AB – YW Calgary is excited to be selected by the Government of Alberta as one of the organizations offering new, free programs for families with children and teens through the Family Resource Network.

“As many Calgarian’s face the challenges of the pandemic alongside increasingly difficult economic times, many families may find themselves needing additional support and guidance” says Talia Bell, Vice President, Programs and Services at YW Calgary. “At YW, we know the value of supporting families to build healthy relationships and increase their ability to contribute to healthier communities. YW is excited to work with amazing community partners to support families with children and teens through this innovative new program and delivery model.”

The Family Resource Network provides community-based programs to families who might be experiencing or at risk of experiencing adversity. These programs focus on support for the whole family. Caregivers and parents will gain new skills and knowledge to strengthen family relationship, support children and teens to cope with trauma and improve child and youth development by building resilience, which in turn fosters well-being.

YW Calgary, as a Family Resource Network Hub will coordinate and provide services for families in Calgary City Centre, offering free prevention and early intervention services and supports for families with children up to 18 years of age.

YW Calgary is proudly working with five community partners, including CUPS, The Alex, Carya, Catholic Family Service and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

At this time, due to COVID-19, all programs are virtual. To register for the Family Resource Network, families can call 403-262-0497 or email familynetwork@ywcalgary.ca
