(Calgary, AB) – YW Calgary is marking this year’s International Women’s Day – Month – not only with several events that both celebrate the successes and resilience of women, but also by shining a light on the economic, educational, and professional barriers that remain for women to truly thrive. Nearly 500,000 Canadian women lost their jobs during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and many of those have not been able to return to work. There has been a three-fold increase in the number of women who have slipped into long-term unemployment since the pandemic began and this has had a compounding impact on mothers and Gen-Z. The post-pandemic recovery continues to be uncertain, and women-focused organizations recognize that strategic interventions are the only way to mitigate the economic impacts of the pandemic for Canadian women.

YW Calgary’s March International Women’s Day events calendar offers several opportunities to celebrate, engage in critical conversations and together forge a path forward for change.

YW has a lot to contribute to the conversation this month in regard to women’s recovery, the shadow pandemic and how we are supporting women to come out of this challenging time. Interview opportunities are available with one of our many experts today, and throughout the month of March.
