Women’s Employment Resource Centre

Program Details

The Vermilion Energy/YW Employment Resource Centre (ERC) helps women with essential skills, job search techniques, resume writing and making connections with education partners and employers. The goal is to support women as they establish and maintain employment; to create a learning environment that supports women in building capacity.

We offer these services and opportunities to the hundreds of women who are currently accessing YW housing and support programs, as well as anyone living in the community.

YW Women’s Employment Program

This six-week program combines four weeks of classroom instruction, a two-week community-focused project and ongoing one-on-one coaching to support women as they find appropriate employment. The four-week in-class content includes:

  • Interpersonal skill development, skill identification and goal-setting
  • Resume development, business writing, job search techniques, employment obstacles and interview skills
  • Networking, job retention and the hidden job market

The two-week group project includes research, planning and execution of a community enhancement project.

Other Services

The ERC works with other areas and programs YW Calgary offers to make sure all ERC clients find the services they need. We also work with our contacts in the community, including potential employers.

Wendy’s Story

When Wendy first arrived at the YW, she did not have business clothing to move forward in her job search but YW’s ERC team knew that and referred her to Dress For Success and Walk In Closet. The ERC team gave Wendy a brand new winter flannel jacket to ensure she had a coat during the winter along with transit tickets and snacks while she used the resources available to her.
Reflecting on her experience, Wendy says the “most wonderful support I got was when my sister passed away. I was asked by my family members to present a eulogy at her Service. The ERC team helped me with my presentation and did not critique it at all. Instead I got support, understanding, compassion and sympathy in my loss.”
