Mayra is a dedicated Registered Social Worker; her educational background is in both Chemistry and Social Work. She has been in the field of family violence intervention for over a decade. As the Outreach Supervisor at YW Calgary since 2018, she leads a team of Case Managers in providing vital support to those affected by family violence.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, she effectively advocates for diverse populations, enhancing participants’ access to essential resources. Mayra is passionate about fostering creativity and commitment within her team, helping to develop their skills and capabilities. She finds fulfillment in the positive impact they make in the lives of those they touch. In her spare time, she enjoys adventure and traveling around the world to learn about different cultures.
Karen is a Group Facilitator with the YW Calgary Counselling Department with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Calgary. Karen has worked in the field of domestic violence intervention since 2014, and her work is rooted in deconstructing societal myths and responses which contribute to this devastating public health issue impacting people in the private and public spheres. Having experienced personal healing through safe, compassionate relationships, Karen brings a strong foundation in attachment theory and a desire to use her knowledge and skills to foster supportive conversations with clients. Outside of her professional life, Karen enjoys time with her family and four-legged fur babies.
Skye is a registered Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Calgary. Since joining YW Calgary in 2006, Skye has held several roles supporting families, children, and groups. For the last 8 years, working as an adult clinical counsellor, she has seen the impact of family violence prevention and intervention first hand. Skye is passionate about developing connections to support healing, growth, and learning with those who have been impacted by trauma.
