CALGARY, November 19, 2015 –The 5^th annual YWCA WHYWHISPER Fundraising Gala will be held this evening with keynote speaker Martin Luther King III.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. King has been motivating audiences around the world with his insightful message of hope and responsibility. Human rights activist, global humanitarian and political leader, Mr. King has seized the torch lit by his parents and is continuing their quest for equality and justice for all. “The shoes of my mother and father could never be filled,” says Mr. King. “But I make the choice each day to follow in their footsteps.” This evening Mr. King will speak to more than 500 YWCA guests on the topic of civil rights challenges in the 21^st century. The YWCA has been a leader in the community for more than 104 years. Through their ongoing signature fundraising events they raise funds that allow them to continue to drive engagement and inspiration among Calgarians. The YWCA WHYWHISPER Fundraising Gala elevates the voices of vulnerable women in Calgary. “Each year for the WHYWHISPER Gala we endeavor to bring unique and impactful speakers to our audiences. This year’s will be as distinctive,” says Sue Tomney, Chief Executive Officer, YWCA of Calgary. “Mr. King will add an entirely new dimension to the YWCA’s list of keynote speakers and will allow us to build on our advocacy work related to equity for everyone.” Funds raised at the gala will support programs and services which help empower women and their families to lead stronger, healthier lives in Calgary. -30- Media are invited to attend a question-and-answer session prior to the gala featuring Mr. King and Sue Tomney, Chief Executive Officer, YWCA of Calgary.
