Project Description

Annie Davidson planted the seed of what would become Calgary’s first public library in the parlour of her home in 1906, when she held the founding meeting of the Calgary Women’s Literary Club. While the original purpose of the club was to study literature it soon began to advocate for a library for the fledgling city. Over the next six years, the widowed mother of 10 children gathered public support and donations for construction of the Memorial Park Library, which opened in 1912.
