Signal for Safety: Prevention Before Harm
Signal for Safety, a YWCA Calgary initiative funded by Public Safety Canada, raises awareness about Canada’s Emergency Prohibition and Limitations on Access Orders, known as Red Flag laws. These safety tools temporarily remove or limit firearm access during safety concerns like self-harm, domestic violence, or threats.
Why It Matters
YWCA Calgary assists women and families through prevention, empowerment, and advocacy. We strive to create safer, more equitable communities. Signal for Safety aims to raise awareness of these additional safety measures, promoting earlier intervention and preventing harm. We are also rolling this initiative out internally to strengthen safety awareness and preparedness across our own organization.
About the Presentations
Our sessions help workplaces, community groups, and professionals learn about these Orders and how they support firearm-related risk prevention.
