Project Description

1997

Fleeing domestic violence and raising three children as a single mother, Wanda Warkentin faced challenging odds. All the more so because she is deaf.
A leader in the deaf community, Wanda teaches American Sign Language, works as a deaf interpreter, and strives to eliminate the barriers between the deaf and hearing worlds.
Her involvement as a board member with the Calgary Association of the Deaf and her participation in Unspoken, a hearing accessible spoken word show at Lunchbox Theatre, highlight Wanda’s inclusive and patient approach.
