Project Description

Sharon Hapton turned an empty nest, an open heart and a soup tureen into a recipe for social change.
Sharon founded Soup Sisters (and Broth Brothers) in 2009, based on the belief that nurturing homemade soup could provide comfort and support to women, children and youth in crisis.
The idea struck a chord and today thousands of volunteers come together in communities across Canada and local Soup Sisters chapters have delivered more than a million “hugs in a bowl” to emergency shelters across the country.
