Project Description

When Mary Hetherington graduated from law school in 1964 few firms were hiring female lawyers.
Undaunted, Mary found work in two law firms before hanging out her shingle in 1967 as one of the first female litigators in the province.
With a reputation for fierce intelligence and tenacity, Mary was appointed to the District Court of Alberta in 1978, to be followed soon after with appointments to the Alberta Court of Appeal and senior judicial roles in the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut.
