Project Description

First, Janet Mitchell taught herself to paint.
Then she took night classes at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (now ACAD), and attended the Banff School of Fine Arts on scholarship in 1942.
Later inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, over the course of her prolific artistic career Janet captured brilliant swaths of Alberta landscape as well as people and streetscapes in her lively watercolour paintings, and had a brush in her hand until shortly before she passed in 1998.
