Helen Belyea was a pioneer in geology who played an important role in the development of Western Canada’s oilpatch.
With a PhD in Geology, Helen joined the Geological Survey of Canada in 1945 and was deployed to Calgary to open an office after oil was struck in Leduc.
Recognized for her academic and field research on the oil-rich Devonian geological sequence, Helen produced more than 30 scientific papers and helped to map the entire Devonian region.
