Georgina Thomson was a longtime literary fixture in Calgary. Born in 1892, Georgina studied English at the University of Alberta, earning her bachelor’s degree (she would later earn a master’s degree) and teaching high school before joining the Calgary Public Library in 1923, where she would work for the next 34 years, gaining a reputation for innovation. Deeply engaged in the community, she wrote prose and poetry extensively and published a memoir of her early life in southern Alberta.
