Project Description

1907

When her mother died in childbirth in 1881, Flores LaDue (born Grace Bensell) went to live with her grandparents on a Sioux reservation in Minnesota.
Returning to her father’s home as a young woman, Flores chafed in high society and ran away to join the rodeo, eventually winning three world championships in trick and fancy roping and working as a world-touring vaudevillian.
After she married Guy Weadick, the two of them operated a dude ranch in Alberta, held rodeos and went on to stage the first Calgary Stampede.
