Project Description

1967

Emily Follensbee believed in potential.
A teacher in her early years in Saskatchewan, it was only after she moved to Calgary and tried, without success, to enroll her handicapped son in school that she found her life’s calling, advocating for people with disabilities.
In 1952 Emily helped to found what would become the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary, launching decades of advocacy for inclusion of people with developmental disabilities and support for them to achieve their potential.
