Project Description

1977

As a voracious young reader, Cheryl Foggo went for years before encountering a positive black character or portrayal of black life.
Over the course of her career as a playwright, screenwriter and author, Cheryl has unearthed the history of Alberta’s black pioneers and made space for black characters in literature.
From her play John Ware Reimagined and stage adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, to her other writings and upcoming film Cheryl continues to close the gap for representations of black lives in history and literature.
