Project Description

Caen Bly was a pioneer in journalism giving Canada’s Indigenous communities a voice in print.
A member of the Blood Tribe in southern Alberta, Caen was the first editor of Kainai News, the trailblazing newspaper that tackled issues and subjects of local, regional and national importance for Canada’s Indigenous people.
Under Caen’s editorial leadership, Kainai News took on challenging topics such as the early Trudeau era’s move to scrap the Indian Act and the impact of Bill C-31.
