Project Description

Calgarian Barbara Charlton had a passion for helping children in need.
In the decade between 1953 and 1963 Barbara took in more than 100s of foster children, often up to 25 at a time. In 1963, told that she could only take in two foster children at a time, she became the neighbourhood’s babysitter, often caring for 10 children on any given day, continuing until she was 79 years old. In her spare time Barbara made hundreds of quilts each year, donating them to local aid agencies.
