Project Description

A long-time teacher in her home province of Ontario, Annie Foote moved to Calgary in 1892 and taught for another 19 years, until her retirement.
In 1913, at the age of 67, Annie was the first female trustee elected to the Calgary School Board and later serving as vice-chair.
While in office Annie worked to increase staffing and establish a normal school, among other advances.
Outside of the classroom, Annie was an avid mountain climber and early member of the Canadian Alpine Club.
