YW WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES on Campus is a fun and light-hearted event addressing a serious issue impacting far too many families in our community – domestic violence. The event is the first of its kind on any university campus in Canada and raises funds in support of YW Calgary to provide programs and services which help women to live healthy lives and thrive in their community.
Thank you to everyone that supported us and participated this year as we strutted through campus grounds at the University of Calgary on March 24, 2018 to speak out against domestic violence!

YW WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® on Campus is hosted by The University of Calgary’s Students Against Domestic Abuse Association (SADAA). All proceeds go to YW Calgary.
SADAA was founded in July 2016, and is the first student-run initiative of its kind in Canada. Shortly after its founding, the Association was inducted as a member agency of the Calgary Domestic Violence Collective. The organization consists of students across all faculties and disciplines who are passionate about advocating for survivors of domestic abuse, and raising awareness about the misconceptions and realities surrounding the issue. The Association aims to dispel the stigma surrounding domestic abuse, foster critical thinking and meaningful dialogue surrounding the issue, empower survivors to share their stories and experiences with domestic abuse, educate community members about effective and respectful strategies to intervene when loved ones may be experiencing domestic abuse, and build the foundation for a community-wide support network for survivors of domestic abuse.

Unlike some other runs and walks held on campus, YW WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES on Campus will not be a race. All participants are encouraged to walk the route as a single group to foster a sense of community and solidarity with survivors of domestic abuse.
