Media are invited to a ceremonial cheque presentation at the YWCA of Calgary.

WHAT:

Kerry Lyons on behalf of Hockey Helps the Homeless will be presenting a cheque in the amount of $46,800 to the YWCA of Calgary in support of the YWCA Mary Dover House Basic Needs Project. Vermilion Energy, the presenting sponsor of Hockey Helps the Homeless hockey tournament and a long-time supporter of the YWCA will also have a representative onsite to speak at the presentation.

WHY:

YWCA Mary Dover House is a supportive housing program which provides 94 beds of safe and low-cost shelter to single women and women with children who experience homelessness and poverty as well as six emergency beds. The Mary Dover House Basic Needs Project will provide these women with life’s essentials – dishes, pots and pans, flatware, and community kitchen food, linens and towels.

A safe refuge is the critical first step to working with clients to achieve life change. On site at YWCA Mary Dover House are case management staff and support services which work to intervene and guide clients to the resources and assistance to plan what comes next.

Despite the recent flood crisis in Calgary, the YWCA must continue to help the vulnerable women they serve on a daily basis.
